Howdy Folks,

Well, I knew this day was going to come sooner or later.  I've put off making this announcement for several weeks to give myself a chance to reevaluate my decision and determine whether or not I'd made the right choice, but all signs indicate that I'm very much satisfied with the conclusion.

As of November 30, 2002, I've retired from the Stargate fandom.  Those who knew about my retirement are aware that at the time I'd called it only a "temporary retirement," but during the past few months of reflection and rediscovery of who I am and what I want, I now know that this retirement will be permanent.  The reasons for it are many and varied, not the least of which is my lack of interest in the current incarnation of the TV show, lack of time due to work and real life commitments, and my rediscovery of previously forgotten/lost/ignored interests (RPG video games, music, reading novels, Lord of the Rings, writing fiction, etc.).  It is possible that Season 7 will rekindle my interest in the show, but even then, considering the splintered, bickering, name-calling state of the fandom the past few years, I doubt I'll ever return to it.  I suppose it's still possible (nothing is impossible, after all), but it's not likely.

So, what this retirement will affect:

1.  The Stargate portion of this web site (The Stargate SG-1 Compendium) will no longer be updated.  This probably won't affect much seeing as I haven't updated it in years anyway. :-)  For now, though, it will remain online for those fans who wish to use it for reference.

2.  I will no longer be writing Stargate fan fiction.  For the time being my fiction will remain available on the Internet (with the exception of "Project Zero," which I have already removed -- it would be cruel for me to leave a story on the Internet that will never be continued nor finished, and besides, the response to it indicates only a small handful of people will actually miss it).  In the future, however, it is extremely likely the rest of my fan fiction will be removed as well.  After a long dry spell, I've rediscovered my once-missing writing muse, and she's shifted my mental gears from writing fan fiction to writing original fiction.  Unfortunately, due to legal reasons, my fan fiction cannot coexist with my real fiction if I ever wish to get my real fiction published.  (Note: Until I do pull the Stargate version of "Frozen Flame" from the internet, I will continue to send out copies of Part 2 to those who request it, so don't be afraid to ask for it.)

3.  I am no longer active on any mailing lists or message forums.  While I still occasionally check a few of them to see if there's any news of interest, I am no longer following/contributing to discussions or reading Stargate fan fiction.

4.  The Heliopolis Challenge pages (which originated on this site and I later moved to Heliopolis and maintained there) will find a new home and owner, hopefully once I finish adding and formatting the 300+ challenges that are currently sitting in my inbox.  Who this new owner will be is yet to be announced seeing as Heliopolis is in the process of shifting hands itself.

5.  The future of the Stargate Novel Archive, which I also created and have (to date) maintained under an alias, is currently up in the air.  Hopefully it too will soon be able to find new owners.  Keep checking that site for updates and news as I determine the best course for it.

...I think that's it.  Needless to say, I was amazed at how much free time I reclaimed the second I pulled away from the fandom. :-)

I consider myself extremely blessed to have met all the wonderful people in the fandom that I did.  You're the reason I'm doing what I'm currently doing -- rewriting "Frozen Flame" into an original novel, minus the Stargate characters and situations.  You've given me the confidence to pursue this interest; you've taught me what works and what doesn't in fiction writing; you've shared your thoughts and opinions with me; you've helped me grow in my world view and, perhaps most importantly, as a human being.  From the very bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your patience, your encouragement, and your support.  Hopefully one day I will be able to repay you with even a small portion of everything you've given to me.

Bidding you a fond farewell and wishing you all the best,
Suzie Bagley

May 29, 2004

Howdy, folks!

I realize it's been well over a year since I last poked my head up on the site, but believe it or not, I am still alive.  Since it has been so long and since things inevitably happen and change as time passes, I also figured I should probably give you all a "status report" -- and a heads' up -- on where a few of the "effects" from my retirement stand, in the order I listed them in the last announcement:

1. As predicted, the Stargate Compendium has not been updated in eons.  For the time being, it will still remain online as it stands.

2. This is the main announcement...and I'll come back to it later, okay?  I promise. :-)

3. I'm still not very deeply involved in the online Stargate fandom.  I've simply been too busy the past year and a half, although I do still watch the show and monitor certain mailing lists and forums, so I didn't leave the fandom entirely as I thought I'd have done by now.  I guess old habits are hard to break, eh?

4. The Heliopolis Challenge Pages...well, Heliopolis has done their own thing since my last announcement, and I have no idea what's happening with them anymore.  The challenge pages are in their hands, and what they do with those pages is now their own business.

5. The Stargate Novel Archive, on the other hand, is still alive and well and is something I'm still running, albeit with some lovely assistants now. :-)  I just couldn't bear to give that one up.  I'm even planning to continue with the adult/slash expansion to the archive, hopefully sometime this summer or early next fall, although I make no guarantees of a date for the grand opening because there's a lot of work to do with it still ahead of us.  Updates to it will continue to be sporadic, at least until I finish the other projects I'm currently working on.

All right, now that that's covered, let's get back to #2, shall we?

I'm still not writing Stargate fan fiction, for the same reasons I gave in the last update -- primarily because I'm currently so focused on my "Frozen Flame" rewrite that I have neither the time nor the inclination to work on any.  That doesn't mean I don't have Stargate plot bunnies bouncing around in my head -- believe me, I do, and I truly hope once I finish the rewrite I can try to get some of those irritating bunnies out of my head down onto paper, where they belong -- but for the foreseeable future, I do not have plans to write any.

Project Zero is still removed from the internet -- and I can tell you with a good bit of certainty that it will not be finished.  It's dead, folks; for those who had enjoyed it and wanted to see how it was going to be finished, I truly am sorry about that.  Several of the scenes I had been planning to use in later sections of it have even been reworked to the point where they've been included in my "Frozen Flame" rewrite, so yes, it's definitely dead now.  Although I admit I have been amused -- and vaguely frustrated at times -- at the number of people who have asked me to send them a copy of story, which I removed from the internet for the sole purpose that people couldn't read it.... *g*

Now, the real reason for this announcement.  About a year and a half ago I mentioned that I had begun my massive project to rewrite "Frozen Flame" as a publishable novel, with completely new, original characters and no connection to Stargate whatsoever.  The good news, for those who are interested, is that, while not finished yet, the rewrite is flying along beautifully; I estimate that right now I'm 11/16 finished with the rough draft of the story.  The end of the story, while still a good bit away, is finally in sight, and if the writing itself continues flowing as it seems to be, I estimate I should be there within the next 3-4 months.  (The next step once I've finished the rough draft is an estimated one-year revision process on it, and then, hopefully, I can begin searching for a publisher.)

The bad news with this, however, is that the two versions of the story cannot coexist -- in other words, if I'm ever blessed enough to find myself with a publisher, the Stargate version cannot be available on the Internet at the same time that the other version is in print.  To that end, I will be pulling the Stargate version of the story from my site sooner rather than later -- at the very latest, by the end of the summer, September 1, 2004.

Therefore, if you haven't read the story but were planning to do so one day, or if you've already read it and were planning to go back and reread it, I ask that you either a) read/reread the story before the end of the summer, or b) download the story now to read at a later date.  The same can also be said about all my other original, ship, gen, and crossover stories that are linked from this pageAll of my stories will be pulled from the Internet at the same time, and they will not be distributed in any way after the September 1st date.

This should be plenty of time (three months) for readers to grab any stories they're interested in before the September 1, 2004 deadline. And yes, I will continue to send out copies of Part 2 of "Frozen Flame" to anyone who requests it until that date, so please don't be afraid to ask for it. :-)

My deepest thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement!  I seriously doubt I would've been able to tackle such a massive project without you guys.  I've appreciated every single piece of feedback I've received, both the positive and the negative, and I hope that, in the end, they help me become a better writer -- and will help me make the new version of the story even better than the old one.  If all goes well, hopefully one day I'll even find myself able to come back to the wonderful world of writing Stargate fan fiction, most likely under a different writing name the next time, though.

Have a great summer, everyone, and happy reading! :-)

Suzie

Yes, that's right, folks, as predicted, "Frozen Flame," along with all my other fan fiction stories, have finally been removed from the internet.  For my reasoning in doing this, please read the two previous announcements on this page dated February 1, 2003, and May 29, 2004.

However, at least for the time being, if you were in the process of reading "Frozen Flame" when it was pulled, or if you downloaded the first half only to find that the second half was missing, feel free to email me at sbagley814@hotmail.com and let me know that you'd like to finish it.  I can't guarantee a response time within 24 hours like I did before, but I'll certainly try not to keep you waiting too long.  The same holds true for my other pulled fics.

And for those who are following the progress of the rewrite of "Frozen Flame"...it's coming along well.  Very well.  So well that I anticipate that I'll have the rough draft of it finished by the end of 2004.  Let's just say I'm finally in the home stretch, and I can see the end in sight.  Yes, I am extremely happy about that, thank you very much. *g*  And yes, I will be posting updates and news about the rewrite to my site as I reach major milestones with it, so if you're interested in seeing what becomes of this story, watch this page! *g*  (Or, alternately, I do post updates about my progress with it periodically at my Live Journal.  If you're interested in reading it, feel free to email me at sbagley814@hotmail.com and I can send you the link to that.  Just be aware there are some huge, honkin' spoilers for the rewrite over there!)

Again, I can't possibly begin to thank everyone who's supported and encouraged me -- and supplied feedback and constructive criticism -- these past few years enough.  I sincerely hope that one day I will be able to return to writing fan fiction; that is -- and perhaps always will be -- my first love when it comes to writing. :-)
